#157 of 366: Seeing Green, Nicki Minaj, Drake, Lil Wayne

I’m really not a fan of Drake’s, at all. I wish he wasn’t on this track, but he is.

That said, we were do for a silly Hip Hop song. My favorite detail in the whole thing (and has to be up there of all-time I think, it’s that great) is right in the beginning of Weezy’s verse where you can hear him remove said (assuming Balenciaga) mask in the middle of rapping “let me take this Balenciaga mask off”.

Tickets…still…available!

BE GOOD DO GOOD!

#156 of 366: I AM WOMAN, Emmy Meli

I’m classy, I’m modern, I live by my own design, I’m cherry, I’m lemon, I’m the sweetest key lime pie, I’m electric, I’m bass, I’m the beat of my own drum, I could make your goosebumps raise, with the tracing of my thumb, only love can get inside me, I move to my own timing, voice of the future speak to me kindly, I feel what I want and somehow it finds me, somehow it finds me, somehow it finds me”

This one goes out to all of you badass women out there. STRUT today. You rock. Be whatever you want to be.

But maybe be good, do good too, along with whatever you choose today. Love you.

P.S. The “be good, do good” sign-off deserves a clarification. I’m not necessarily advising that you behave yourself, but whatever you do, be good to others, and do good for the world however you can.

#155 of 366: Basquiat, Black Hibiscus

Sharp-eared and -eyed follower Michael pointed out that yesterday was a repeat post almost 100 days after I posted the original Muddy Feet post. I apparently added the song to the 366 for 366 playlist twice! Adds to the charm, right? We’re a professional publication here, obviously.

I ran into this guy because of my TikTok algorithm. Fantastic find.

Enjoy the funk here and have yourself a funky-ass Sunday. Love you all. Be good, do good.

#154 of 366: Muddy Feet, Miley Cyrus, Sia

Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga both had the same reaction from me initially. Over the top fake-seeming personalities and songs…seeking shock factor through meat dresses and on-stage vulgarities.

I judged. Wasn’t curious. Ted Lasso faux pas.

Then one Thanksgiving Lady Gaga did a special with The Muppets. I watched that and completely 180’d on her. She was so sincere and honest during the whole thing, I was floored. Then I watched Gaga: Five Foot Two on Netflix and saw an honest person for the second time. Not a character. Then she was a character in A Star Is Born and I was floored by the talent and amazing performance.

My journey with Miley was more a musical discovery. Her rough-fucking-hewn lumber/gravel road voice is fantastic. As I gave her a chance and listened to more of her music, I appreciated her more.

Curiosity beats judgement. Be good, do good.

#152 of 366: I Think I Like When It Rains, WILLIS

I skipped through so many song tonight trying to find “THE VIBE” that I wanted to share for the next post, and this is what I landed on.

I hope this song inspires in you the superchill quietude that it did in me.

That’s the energy I want to impart after my hectic afternoon at school. Let’s slow things down in our mind as much as we can today. I’m setting a goal of doing a Headspace in the AM, midday, and before bed. What are you gonna do for you today?

Be good, do good.

#151 of 366: Paint My Bedroom Black, Holly Humberstone

“And now I’m pulling out of your driveway, finally, I’m living, not surviving, and it’s funny you said I’d never have the guts, well, suck it up, I’m gonna bottle up this feeling, now, with the windows down, I am reborn, in the ever-fading light, you know you once were a someone I adored, well never mind”

No witty commentary on this one, just a cool song from Holly Humberstone, whom I like even more the more I listen to her. Great ditty about moving on from a bad relationship. She’s got a great voice, and it shows in this song. Enjoy!

#150 of 366: All We Are, TiRon & Ayomari

I love that the beginning of this song uses a viral YouTube video in it’s intro.

That message really goes hand in hand with the message shared by the song.

“All of us (all of us), grow up (grow up), trying to find our space (our space), trying to find out piece (our piece), of a pie, of a friend, of a love, on-the-go, some days you can feel out of place, like you can’t keep pace, don’t it feel like we in a race, like it’s me vs. you, or, it’s us vs. them, acting like, if you win I lose, like, we both can’t win, so one of us might as well just give up, cause around here we don’t give out helping hands, you can’t believe that though, cause it’s just not true, cause I know by myself I can go 85 or maybe do 150 with some help from you”

Food for thought today. BGDG.

#149 of 366: Lord It’s a Feeling – goddard. Remix, London Grammar, goddard.

London Grammar perfects atmospheric (and sometimes outright epic) sounds. This remix that I discovered last year turns it into a different direction. I honestly prefer the jilted lover remix over the…oddly-placid-in-the-face-of-infidelity original?

After writing that last sentence I had to listen again and really study the lyrics to try and get a feel for the original.

I never was able to understand that first lyric in the intro. Turns out it’s:

“Imagine if I’d have had a baby”

Which…fuck. Tough, tough, TOUGH, sentence. As I listen to the rest of the song, I feel more and more that it’s about a love triangle. Is the voice we’re hearing the voice of one of the points of that triangle that’s waiting for the other to leave the third? The line in the beginning about “I saw the words she wrote that broke my heart” kind of leads me there.

The more I listen to the original I see that my “oddly placid” judgment was hasty. Our voice is definitely sad and I think questioning their own decision/part in the triangle. It’s almost an existential questioning of self.

Our remix though…

I love how we start out with beautiful strings and shimmering chimes. Things were good then for our voice.

Starting at 1:06, those low synths are menacing. Even though it’s the same lyrics of the song, I think the remix has more venom to it. The voice is angry about their involvement in this triangle. Less questioning existentially and more admonishing existentially. They are cynical and wiser to the game now.

That’s my assessment anyway. Both are beautiful in their own way. Just like all of you.

It’s been a while since I’ve told you, but, love ‘ya.

#148 of 366: Yards, Maiah Manser

Maiah has such a beautiful voice!

When I left you in New York
I knew it was the end
Then the road began to fork
I walked down your path again
You say that I’m so perfect
A dream so red and true
So really was it worth it
Always telling me what to do
I know what you wanted more”

Bit of a heartbreaker but a pretty one, and at least she is trending up by the end and on the road to better.

I hope you have a wonderful day and enjoy how lovely this song is!
