I don’t know what algorithm brought me to songs with…I can’t think of the right word…spoken word philosophy/poetry I guess? They provide nice prompts for thought sometimes. Self-reflection is a super-power.
Such a slow and sweet vibe to this one. Bittersweet. Definitely some lament seasoned in there. Overall though, a wonderfully beautiful promise. Well done, John.
“and lover of mine (lover), slow down your pace (slow down), ’cause, in the morning you’ll be heading (down) right back to it, and lay down with me (lay down), come back to bed, ’cause, I’ll be here waiting (down) for you to put on that dress, and lover of mine (lover of mine)m and I’m standing in line (standing in line), to ask for your hand (down), I’ll pray that it’s mine”
This song has been covered a gazillion times, but you know I wouldn’t share one if it didn’t slap. Enter Tkay Maidza. This is a cool take on the original! Updated yet loyal to the OG.
“Baby, I, I, I’m go-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-ing somewhere, I, I don’t know-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, to another planet, to another destination, must be my drink, must be something I took, but you should climb on board”
I like the idea of this song possibly being styled in the way of Alice in Wonderland? What with the drink, the taking, and the falling down the rabbit hole piano.
“It’s been assumed I’m soft or irrelevant, ’cause I refuse to downplay my intelligence, but in a room of thugs and rap veterans, why am I the only one who’s acting like a gentleman?, good form, bad taste, pity, what a waste, all that style, not a thing to say, looks to me like a little of your true school, is at the shallow end of the typing, all cloak, no dagger, just smoke and swagger, I hope you’re battery’s charged, ’cause I found this here ladder, now your ceilings don’t matter, check me out, now I got glass floors”
Dessa delivers her usual fire/clever songwriting with that punch-you-in-the-mouth flow.
Is someone underestimating you? Let this be an anthem for you.
Also, if I ever had a daughter, this would be her. 🙂
