#216 of 366: United in Grief, Kendrick Lamar

“I hope you find some peace of mind in this lifetime, (tell them, tell ’em, tell them the truth), I hope you find some paradise, (tell ’em, tell ’em the truth), (tell ’em, tell ’em, tell ’em, tell ’em your-), I’ve been goin’ through somethin’, one-thousand-eight hundred fifty-five days, I’ve been goin’ through somethin’, be afraid”

Kendrick can be polarizing (to Drake fans). I think he’s incredible. I love that he will often completely switch up his styles in tracks, and just is a great lyricist. He’s a the top of “The Game” right now, IMO. Cole rightly backed off “The Beef”.

Have a great frickin’ day!

Be good, do good.

#214 of 366: Road Alone, Kostn, Soudi

Kostyn
Soudi, “Japanese”

Continuing that dark vibe today with this track by Kostn and Soudi. Two artists who you can find on Spotify that DO NOT have a lot of followers. I’m curious to explore the other work by them.

There ya go! Explore something new today. New book? New show/movie? New habit you’ve been meaning to nurture? Go for it.

Be good, do good.

#212 of 366: Are You Awake?, Lauren Mayberry

Let’s slow things down a little. Always nice to take a little pause.

The wonderfully talented Lauren Mayberry, lead singer of the band Chvrches, now has some solo stuff out there on the streaming services and I cannot recommend her beautiful Scottish voice more. I’ve been lucky enough to see them live a couple times and boy do they put on a show.

“Are you awake?, I’ve been thinkin’ through some things, been countin’ their babies and their diamond wedding rings, are you awake?, I feel sadness in my skin, it happens sometimes now, are you awake?, I don’t remember when we last spoke, I probably overshared or made some tasteless joke, are you awake?, I miss the streetlights and the smoke, it happens sometimes now”

Beautifully performed.

Be good, do good.

#210 of 366: Carsick, Chrissy

Every time I hear this song, I love it a little bit more. The melody is infectious for me, especially the beginning!

“Carsick, I’ve been all types of sick, lovesick, homesick, sleepless, so exhausted, I can’t feel it, can’t feel this, am I supposed to question why I’m so dead inside?, your napping with a knife in my bed like it isn’t mine, skipping meals, skipping class, whenever I lie, I laugh, twisting my arm on behalf of love that’s in a body bag, am I supposed to question why I’m so dead inside, your napping with my knife in my bed like it isn’t mine”

Happy Summer Olympics!

Be good, do good. Go USA!

#208 of 366: Dog Days of Summer, Olivver the Kid

“Life goes by, like the dog days of summer, the sun may set, but you still hear the thunder, life goes by, it’s an alligator death roll, starts at the surface, ends up in depths below”

Love that little section.

Did you get the ice cream?

Maybe an Easter Egg, but the reference to “a silence in three parts” is verbatim how author Patrick Rothfuss styles his prologues and epilogues in the two current books of the Kingkiller Chronicle series, Name of the Wind, and The Wise Man’s Fear.

If you like fantasy fiction, I highly recommend.

Have a wonderful day!

Be good, do good.

#206 of 366: Blunt Blowin’, Lil Wayne

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Weezy. This is a fantastic offering from him.

“Stunna, I got ’em, I’m back on them bitches, all about my riches, my name should be Richard, cut the bullshit out, I’m Edward with the scissors, life is a choice, and death is a decision, times have changed, but fuck it get a new watch, I still got the vision like a line between two dots

That highlighted part might be my favorite lyric of the whole song. Just love the way he delivers it.

May we all go through today with the confidence and a slice of swagger like that of Lil Wayne.

Go get it. No more waiting.

Be good, do good.
